OCI: Yum Fails with Error "Unable to detect release version"

SYMPTOMS

The yum utility fails with following error:

$ yum repolist all

Unable to detect release version (use '--releasever' to specify release version)

Ksplice Uptrack for Oracle Linux 6.1 kB/s | 8.5 kB 00:01

Errors during downloading metadata for repository 'ksplice-uptrack':
