Need to Derive product segment for accounting from item category on customer rebate program

Summary:

As part of the client's account string, one of the segments is product which aligns with the Item Categories used on the customer rebate program. Item category is not listed as available input source for customer accrual mapping set to map to the product segment. Any ideas on how to drive to the product segment during the CHRM accounting events using item/item categories included in the programs as a driver?
