navigate to report for 'drill' behaviour

Hello,
I am a long time user of OBIEE / OTBI and find I am having a problem with a parameter not passing to a report that I am navigating from.
So the field is 'Expenditure Category' in the Subject Area Projects - Performance Reporting Real Time, but when I try to catch its value in a target report that I am drilling to from this source report the value does not pass.
As an experiment I added the same value in a dashboard prompt on the same page, and where typically this results in the prompt being populated on drill to target I find it still does not catch the fields value on drill.
I have tried explicit filter on source and target and that works fine. I also tried putting the sql view diagnostic on the source and target and it just ignores the IsPrompted on the target.
If I create a sql based prompt I note that the name of the field is subtly different, 'Expenditure Category Name', but created the same filter on the sql still does not work.
I also cannot find any alternatives that would serve the same purpose as expenditure category name.
Any suggestions for a possible way around this please?
