• College principals, staff, agents booked in Rs 6.5cr fake student scam in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar

  The scam came to light following an inquiry conducted by S R Pedhekar, the assistant commissioner of tribal development, Amravati. The inquiry's findings were submitted in a report to the department. Based on this, Chetna Daulat More, the project officer of the Integrated tribal development project, lodged a formal complaint with the Pundaliknagar police, and an FIR was registered late on Tuesday.

• PRSU reopens PhD admissions for newly qualified UGC NET candidates

  The decision was officially made on July 28, and a fresh notification was issued by registrar Sanjay Kumar on Monday, announcing that the new deadline for PhD applications is now August 8. Previously, the last date to apply was July 26.

  

• Two unidentified assailants attack BHU professor on campus

  Following the incident, BHU professors staged a protest on Tuesday, demanding the arrest of the attackers. "Professor C S Ramchandra Murthy, head of BHU's Telugu Department, was riding his motorcycle in the university premises when two unknown individuals on a motorbike attacked him. The assailants fled when the students nearby raised an alarm," said Station House Officer (SHO) of Lanka Rajkumar Sharma.

  

• J-K students' association seeks judicial probe into Jammu student's suicide in Rajasthan college

  Shweta Singh, a final-year BDS student from Doda district in Jammu and Kashmir, was found hanging on July 24 in her hostel room at Udaipur's Pacific Dental College and Research Centre. She left a suicide note alleging harassment by college staff. Nasir Khuehami, the group's national convenor, called the incident a "brutal consequence of institutional harassment, academic exploitation, and systemic failure" in his letter.

  

• Gujarat: After 19 rounds, several seats in colleges still vacant

  GCAS was introduced two years ago to centralise the admission process for undergraduate courses in arts, commerce, and science. Earlier, individual universities conducted their own admissions, typically concluding within three rounds—two online and one offline. College administrators now argue that the centralised system has proven inefficient.
